All seven or more other operators in the Gulf of Chiriquí depart from locations near David. Most run outboard boats from lodges 50 miles or more from Hannibal Bank. Isla Montuosa is 40–52 miles away, and Isla Jicarón is 65 miles or more. They travel across vast stretches of featureless, largely fishless water just to begin fishing at one of these prime locations.

All operate fleets of outboard boats. Well-funded and well-marketed, few have the knowledge, experience, equipment, or patience required for consistent marlin success. Tuna is their specialty—and they generally pursue it running together, accompanied by constant radio chatter.

Fortunately we are far from them. Closer to the fish and primitive islands. Only 38 miles from Hannibal Bank, 46 miles from Isla Montuosa, and 39 miles from Isla Jicarón. Each journey takes us through Coiba National Park, where island coastlines and submerged rocks are protected from commercial fishing. Sportfishing license required.  The area is nearly devoid of other sport-fishing boats.

We catch many of the large nearshore fish featured on this site while traveling to and from our marlin grounds. The islands within Coiba National Park hold the greatest abundance of sport fish in all of Panama.

Make no mistake: We are specialized and fish the best waters Panama has to offer. The others rarely make it this far.
